If canon, canon point: A few days after Aizen's sentencing post Fake Karakura Town Arc
PB: Why, his most handsome self, of course!
Setting Background: N/A
History: Wiki Link! (Manga history only)
Personality:
Good natured and with a scruffy kind of charm, Kisuke Urahara comports himself as the shopkeep he advertises himself to be. Upon first meeting, Kisuke seems like a generally harmless goofball. He openly welcomes those around him by trading pleasantries and the occasional quip with ease. None of that demeanor is false, but it does mask all the rest beneath - a death god in exile, framed for a crime he didn't commit, who fights to prevent the end of the world.
The aspects that most define Kisuke Urahara are not the odd-ball smile and his slightly unkempt appearance, but his intelligence. In fact, science - if Urahara were married - would be his mistress. He loves digging into the 'hows' and 'whys' of any given problem or unknown and he's got the mental capacity to figure it out for better or worse. If he's working on a new invention, it's not uncommon for him to forgo the basics of eating, sleeping, and bathing for days in order to finish. While his creations are not always a success, failure doesn't seem to deter him with one exception. Urahara holds himself personally responsible for what happened to the Visored at the hands of Aizen, and he views his inability to revert them back to their normal shinigami state as his greatest failure.
The level of Urahara's intelligence compliments his cunning and the two often go hand in hand. Urahara never jumps into a situation blind and usually has a dozen or several dozen backups plans handy just in case. It's a reasonable goal, even laudable except for one tiny, little detail: Urahara generally has no compunction about using people in those plans - with or without their permission or knowledge. Kisuke will withhold vital information and outright manipulate other people into a course of action that he deems necessary. While he never does these things as a means to increase his own power or position, he will do these things even to those closet to him if he sees it as the only way to serve the greater good. Urahara will apologize after the fact and show true remorse for his actions, but that won't stop him from doing it again.
Coming from the highly regimented Soul Society, Urahara does have a healthy respect for tradition and why those traditions are in place. However, like his view on science, rules and traditions are not hard and fast necessities but guidelines that can be bent, broken, or exploited when needed. What others deem impossible or improper will be the boundaries against which Urahara pushes the hardest. As he puts it, "If we want to witness something nobody has ever seen before, we'll create it ourselves. That's how us scientists are."
In a fight, Kisuke is not much different. While he prefers to avoid combat when he can, Urahara won't run from it either. He uses only as much power as he needs, preferring to keep his opponents guessing as to the true reach of his power and abilities and whatever else Urahara might have up his sleeve. And he always has something up his sleeve - sometimes literally. Since Urahara started off in the Soul Society's equivalent of a stealth division, his fighting style reflects that kind of training. He prefers to use subterfuge and misdirection instead of brute force.
Despite his Machiavellian tendencies, Urahara is a man who cares deeply about those around him and understands the importance of what the Soul Society does even if he doesn't always agree with how they do it. He helps Soul Reapers who come to the world of the living and cares for his two young charges – Ururu and Jinta. When Ururu mistakenly gives Rukia a defective mod soul, Kisuke refuses to be angry with her, stating that it is his fault for not disposing of it. While his methods of teaching are highly unorthodox and often life threatening it is because he's preparing his quasi-students to face much worse.
In the end, Kisuke would probably like to be nothing more than "a mere handsome and sexy shopkeeper" who tinkers with his inventions as he helps those who need it and those closest to him. However, he does not, will not, back down in the face adversity. He is all too aware of what can be lost if people simply set on the sidelines.
Canon Powers:
In general, Soul Reapers can take a lot more damage and recover from far more grievous injuries than humans. They are able to live centuries and possibly millennia.
Spirit energy & spirit particles
All Soul Reapers can sense and manipulate spirit energy & particles. With practice, Soul Reapers can use these particles to form invisible platforms, increase their speed (shunpo) exponentially and to perform spells/effects call Kidou. Kidou breaks down into three main categories - binding spells, destructive spells, and healing spells. The power and potency of any kidou depends on the strength of the user and their skill.
Urahara can form the platforms and is second only to Yoruichi in shunpo. He is a kidou master and invented a few kidou spells.
Zanpaktou (Soul Cutting Sword) - A spirit and weapon that is a part of the Soul Reaper. They are a Soul Reaper's main weapon though they can take a variety of forms and have vastly different abilities between Soul Reapers. Zanpaktous are sentient, but are a part of their bearer's soul. Zanpaktous have three general states: a plain sword, an initial release state, and a final release state.
Benihime (Crimson Princess) - Urahara's Zanpakutou, Benihime, is one of the few know female soul swords wielded by a man. When in her sealed state, Benihime is in the form of a shikomizue (blade hidden in a cane) with a blue/black/white skull and flame mark on the bottom.
Freebie Powers:
Slow Aging Soul Reapers are not immortal. They can age and die, but they do so at a far slower rate than humans. Kisuke is probably over two hundred years old (canon does not specify his exact age) but he looks to be in his early thirties.
Genius level intelligence - Urahara is highly intelligent and often applies that knowledge to science, invention, and fighting strategies. Canonwise, he's invented new forms of kidou, made a lot of the technology the Soul Society uses and adapted that technology to the human world when applicable.
Power Selection: Magic/Archivist
Game Powers: (from Wilderland game materials)
Spell Reflection This ability allows Archivists to immediately reflect a nearby spell at an enemy. They can either do this by reflecting an enemy's spell right back at them or can help an errant ally's spell hit its mark when it would've otherwise have missed. This ability can increase by (3) levels over time.
✧ LEVEL ONE: The ability to reflect basic spells back at someone.
✧ LIMITATION: Occasionally the characters will face an enemy that has magic far more powerful than even the highest level magic of the PCs. Sometimes the mods will make it so these spells can't be reflected at all, but some will potentially have the option of an attempt. If an Archivist is allowed to attempt a spell reflection against one of these enemies, their success will be determined by a simple dice roll made by the mods. If it's a failed roll, there will be a magical feedback explosion that causes minor injury and a temporary disruption of the Archivist's magic.
SPELL BANKING:
Archivists can "bank" spells to be used at a later time. These spells can be of any magic type, from any archetype (with the exception of Alchemists), but are one-time use. Archivists can absorb these spells from enemies or from friends willing to arm them for the future during a time of rest.
The strength of the spells they can bank are tied to the strength they can reflect, so leveling up an Archivist's spell reflection ability also allows them to bank stronger spells. All Archivists will start with only (10) spell slots they can bank 1-time-use spells into, but can gain a slot for each boon cashed in from AC rewards and plot participation. There are no limits to the total number of spell slots they can eventually earn.
Non-Powered Abilities:
Martial Artist - Urahara excels in hand to hand fighting. As a detention officer for the Soul Society, he had to be to take on multiple opponents without a weapon.
Swordsman - Urahara is incredibly skilled with a sword. His methodology matches closely to his personality; he will seek to evade and confuse his opponents all the while slowly opening them up to a direct attack. He is also quite competent at mixing his other abilities with his swordsmanship. There are two notable abilities associated with Urahara's sword.
Tactician/Strategist - This applies to both the battlefield and the more mundane.
Scientist/Inventor - Give him some magic, a few gears, and a week or two and who knows what he'll come up with. Kisuke mixes the canon spiritual energy and power of Bleach quite often with mundane devices that he's designed himself.
Setting/Suitability: Urahara will take to this place like a duck to water. He may not understand everything going on around him, but this is new and a puzzle to solve. Between the different types of magic to study and learn, he'll have more than enough to keep his interest. Kisuke is also the sort who will look at the big picture, try to unravel the mystery, and attempt to find the right course of action. He did it for over 100 in exile and he'll do it again.
Being a form Captain in the Soul Society and highly trained as a Soul Reaper, Urahara can take care of himself and others despite his attempts to sometimes convince people otherwise. He won't be the most forthcoming of individuals at times, but he'll never act in order to cause harm and won't hesitate to take people under his proverbial wing if it's needed.

Your character's inner child has been separated from your character into its own individual entity by a powerful spirit, and your character can speak to them through the game's magic mirror network. The child has been commanded to listen in silence, and in an ultimate test of self-awareness, your character has been told they must talk to them and pass them wisdom and emotional honesty they've gained through life experience. Every time you character lies or is otherwise insincere about something from their adult life, they get zapped with a painful magical shock from the spirit.
This is going about as well as I expected. [ Urahara says with a sigh after the second zap. The pain still tingles along his hands, making his pinky twitch. Really, it’s not his fault that he’d rather explore and test the exact boundaries of this spell as opposed to playing along. ] And you’re not much of a conversationalist.
[ The younger him blinks but doesn’t say anything. He knows that can’t be right because Urahara has never been the silent sort. Words are a means and end of their own. Maybe he should try to play along though. Perhaps that would yield an intriguing result. ]
I’m supposed to tell you something profound. A bit of advice better than ‘don’t eat yellow snow’. [ Urahara thinks back over the centuries of his life and laughs, shaking his head. ] Just when you think you have the answer think again. And again. And again. Chase down every detail until you know it from every angle. Invent new angles and look at it one more time.
[ Blonde hair obscures the child’s eyes. None of the weights that Urahara has known (many his own fault) reflect back at him. No, that will come later. ]
But the most important is to know who your friends are. Their strength is yours when you need it. [ Urahara pauses with a slight frown. ] But sometimes you’ll have to take it.
Additional info: Would it be possible for him to keep Benihime sans any powers and use her a regular sword? I'm assuming she'd be able to converse with him in his head, but that's it.

- Shikai (Initial Release State) Command: Okiro (Awaken). Once commanded, Benihime takes on the form of a medium sized sword with a U shaped guard. The blade itself is black and silver with a razor like tip. Benihime has a few special abilities in shikai form.
- Nake, Benihime (Sing, Crimson Princess) - This allows Urahara to fire off concussive and destructive blasts of crimson energy that usually follow the arc of his sword. He can also charge this technique for greater damage.
- Chikasumi no Tate (Blood Mist Shield) - Activated with 'Nake'. This technique creates a hexagon shaped barrier between Kisuke and his attacker. The shield itself is highly durable.
- Kamisori, Benihime (Razor, Crimson Princess) - Fires an energy arc that is capable of cutting through most things even Hierro protected arrancars. The wave of energy is generated by the motion of the sword and races towards the target quickly.
- Tsuppane, Benihime (Spurning, Crimson Princess) - After analyzing every detail about a technique's energy, use, and delivery, Urahara can cancel out subsequent uses by drawing a circle with the tip of Benihime.
- Shibari, Benihime (Crimson Princess of Binding) - By using this technique, Urahara creates a net of energy that can bind his target in place by use of a slashing motion.
- Hiasobi, Benihime, Juzutsunagi (Crimson Princes That Plays With Fire, Strung Together like Rosary Beads) - After using Shibari, Urahara stabs the created net and creates orbs of fire along it with this technique. The orbs then explode. When they come into contact with the target the explosion is large and devastating.
- Bankai (Final Release State) - Guanyin Biraki Benihime Atarame (Inquisition of the Crimson Princess of the Doors of Avalokitesvara). In her final form, Benihime can 'restructure' anything that she touches.
